This work maps the migration route of my maternal grandparents from Jalisco, Mexico, to Houston. The work gestures toward both the labor of farming and the burden of displacement. The paper twist ties, featuring preprinted geographic locations, handwritten poetry lines, and bits of shared migration stories, highlight the key areas and towns that make up the Rio Grande Valley. The shape of the art piece reflects one of the Texas county seats, mapping where my ancestors and my mother once lived and worked as they migrated toward Houston, Texas.
