The Idea Fund, a re-granting program administered by DiverseWorks, Aurora Picture Show, and Project Row Houses and funded by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
My work is about a state of migration — about movement, location, and identity. Through the support of The Idea Fund, I have been able to travel to U.S.-Mexico border towns with my mother and daughter. I hope that this experience will find its way into the artwork as I create and write vignettes of short stories and poetry that reveal cross-generational ways of belonging in the world.
My intention for this project is to mobilize people and make a difference through the use of storytelling as a primary vehicle for social change; thus creating an exchange of ideas by centering people's stories instead of classifying them as something stagnant or forgotten. I believe this project challenges notions of marginalization.
